Ever since the onset of COVID-19, our plans for summertime road trips have been dicey. Though many of our travel plans have gone by the wayside, there is still a silver lining. That silver lining has to do with more quality time with family, staying close to home, saving money, and taking shorter trips around the region.
We choose to believe that there has to be some good that is borne out of challenges. As a result, we would like to share some of our favorite family-friendly summertime activities for 2020 that will allow you to have fun while maintaining social distancing.
Woodlawn Beach State Park. We are fortunate to have this beautiful state park so close by on the shore of Lake Erie. You and the family can walk, collect rocks, search for seashells, and enjoy the wide open spaces.
Tifft Nature Preserve. With plenty of hiking and scenery, you and the family can enjoy Mother Nature’s splendor. Walk along the miles of trails, watch the birds, and learn about the local plants and animals that live in the ponds, marshes, and woods.
Buffalo Botanical Gardens. This historic site has stunning gardens, lovely architecture, and gorgeous flowers. When you walk through the Palm Dome, you’ll see exotic plants, palm trees, bonsai trees, orchids, and carnivorous plants. This is a great place for families to explore nature that is not indigenous to our region.
Niagara Falls. We are lucky to be located so close to a world treasure. Niagara Fall is a historical site, a natural wonder, and a terrific place to take the kids. Chestnut Ridge County Park. If the kids need to burn off extra energy, run them on the trail to the waterfall. This park is a haven for people who like to get outdoors and explore nature. If you’re extra ambitious, you can view the Eternal Flame Falls, which has a flame burning due to nature’s emission of natural gas. But be warned, the Eternal Flame Trail is a difficult one, so be extra careful if you want to see fire and water living together as one!
Four Wheeling on ATV Trails. If you and the kids like to go four wheeling, we assume you already have your favorite destinations planned out. But if you don’t, here is a link to a list of ATV-friendly destinations not too far out of town.
Regardless if you are driving near or far, be sure your vehicle is ready for your family road trip.
